happy holidays!

2019 has been a tremendous year for us at storytelling with data. The SWD team grew to six with the awesome additions of Mike and Alex (who join Elizabeth, Jody, Randy, and me). My second book, Let’s Practice!, was published. We built and beta-launched the SWD community, a place where people all over the world can come together to practice, give and receive feedback, and discover great work. We offered live online events for the first time and continued to regularly publish blog posts and podcast episodes. The introduction of the Reach program brought our half-day workshop to nearly two-dozen nonprofit organizations and educational institutions. We shared SWD lessons in person through custom and public workshops with more than 3,000 people in 40+ cities all over the world—from as close as down the street from me in Milwaukee, WI to as far away as Sydney, Australia!

While it’s easy—particularly following the sprint we’ve had this year—to stay in the mentality of go-go-go, this is an excellent time of year to pause

reflect…

and be thankful.

I am incredibly thankful for the wonderful team of people I get to work with every day. I am equally grateful for you, reading this right now—you’re a big part of the reason that we do everything we do.

We have some great stuff planned for 2020. But before we turn to that, we are taking a break. We’re going to spend some uninterrupted quality time with our families. SWD will be officially out of the office and offline for the rest of the year. We’ll return with renewed energy in January.

In case you’d like to hear from us in the meantime, you can read some popular posts we’ve penned this year:

  1. strip away the non-essential

  2. start with a clean slate (template)

  3. forty-five pie charts? never say never

  4. the accidental misdirect

  5. power pairing: color + words

Happy holidays from all of us at SWD. See you in 2020!
