A short decade ago, I wouldn’t have anticipated what I’m going to tell you next.

One of my favorite things to do is to stand in front of a room filled with strangers and engage them.

I am an introvert. But my passion has propelled me to overcome this. When I get to share with others my thrill for making a good graph, weaving data into inspiring stories, and presenting powerfully, I literally see change happen. Skeptical brows relax. People lean in. Enthusiasm builds. Fervent discussions ensue. Questions become increasingly nuanced. Ideas abound. This type of transformation is riveting to witness. Every single time.

What started as an unassuming blog post highlighting a few simple tips ten years ago has expanded to two books, a popular podcast, an active online community, and workshops for companies and individuals. This is all supported by a small but incredibly mighty team of talented people. We’ve been doing some pretty amazing things up to this point, and I have a feeling that what we’ll tackle in the future will be even more exciting.

I couldn’t have predicted how challenging business and life would be over the past 18 months. There has been one bright spot, however: bringing our learning sessions online has opened up the world, allowing us to share storytelling with data with more people than ever before. In the span of a single week, we can run workshops for participants in Melbourne, Milwaukee, Madrid, and Mumbai. It is clear that the desire for and need to communicate effectively with data is strong and growing. The demand for our sessions—both in the virtual setting and, once again, in person—is more than we can keep up with.

As a result, it delights me to announce our plan to expand the storytelling with data team: we are hiring!

If what you’ve read here ignites you, I invite you to apply. Join our mission to rid the world of ineffective graphs and inspire positive change by teaching others to communicate simply and eloquently with data.
