Our Member Spotlight program selects someone from the community to highlight. These are people who contribute in ways that foster an even more connected and diverse learning environment. Our goal is to help you get to know your fellow community members a little better and learn from one another.

We are shining our spotlight on Lucia Stefanuto. Folks who participate in our community exercises will no doubt be aware of Lucia. Since joining the SWD community in June 2021, she has not only provided solutions to an impressive 40 exercises, but also requested details on those she hasn’t completed yet in an attempt to complete the set!

Lucia recently collected and shared some of her exercise makeovers in a LinkedIn post:

The post generated a huge amount of interest, and Lucia admitted to being ‘blown away’ by the response and the inspirational comments she received. Going forward, she has ambitions to share more of her work publicly, including a potential foray into the world of video.

Having worked for much of her career as an analyst in the marketing field, Lucia recently began spending a greater proportion of her time in data visualisation, as a result of a change in roles. This change inspired Lucia to think critically about the role of an analyst, and how much time should be dedicated to creating outputs; a recent public visualisation of hers explores this topic using data collected from other practitioners in the field. You can explore more from Lucia on her Tableau Public page.

Also, as a result of her new role, Lucia has identified and collected some common themes to follow when communicating with data; keep an eye out for a guest post on the SWD blog later this month, in which she will share those ideas with us.

If you, too, are interested in learning more, we encourage you to chat with Lucia directly this month. She has a keen interest in the topics of colour and emotion in data visualisation, stemming from her lifelong passion for neuroscience. She boasts an extensive library on these topics (as well as other aspects of visualisation), and would be a great source for book recommendations.  I've already congratulated her and asked my question in the community. To see her response and ask your own queries, pop over to the community conversation. Congrats again, Lucia, on a well-deserved Member Spotlight!

There are plenty of noteworthy members in the community—too many to spotlight at once. This program is part of our larger efforts to find new ways to share multiple voices and experiences. As you discover great work and ideas in the community, let us know who you think should be featured next by completing this quick nomination form. In the meantime, be sure to give appropriate kudos and spread the word!
