start the new year off right

Belated happy new year!

If you're like me, you're already fully back in the swing of things and the start of 2017 feels like the distant past. But before we get too far into the year, I encourage you to pause and consider: what professional skills might you want to develop in 2017? If communicating effectively with data is on your list, read on.

One of my goals this year is to offer open storytelling with data workshops in more cities. To that end, the public workshop schedule has been set for the first half of 2017. Registration is now open for upcoming 1-day workshops in San Francisco, New York City, Seattle, London, and Boston. Click here for details and registration.

We have a ton of fun at the public workshops. They draw people from various backgrounds, roles, and industries, so there are diverse perspectives that lead to robust discussion. Everyone is united through the common goal of wanting to be better when it comes to communicating effectively with data. The sessions are low tech: pens, paper, and post-it notes are our primary tools. They are kept small, typically 20-30 people to ensure everyone gets their questions answered and good interaction with each other and me. The day is a mix of presentation, discussion, and hands-on activities and exercises. After going through it, I promise, you will never look at a graph in the same way!
